For four decades from a studio in Tzfat — a city built on stone, on rain, on the breath between two psalms — Yoel Tordjman has worked through seventeen distinct cycles, each a way of asking the same quiet question. Not what does the world look like, but what is it doing while we are not watching.
The works gathered here move between abstraction and figuration without committing to either. They are made of seasons, of bodies of water remembered, of the way an idea half-formed in childhood returns at sixty. They are not pictures of things — they are the residue of attention.
Six hundred and thirteen — the number of mitzvot in Jewish tradition, and the number of works Yoel Tordjman has completed across forty years from his studio in Tzfat. Not a target. A signature.
